With the help of the project developed in cooperation of two German companies, Gmp Architekten and Schlaich Bergermann + Partners, Italy’s famous Verona Arena (amphitheater) will have a roof that can be retractable. After construction completed that can be automated to open and close in case of bad weather.
German GMP ARCHITEKTEN proposal for retractable roof design for the historic and well-known amphitheater in Verona, has won the commision which was joined by 87 international companies organized by regional conservation council.
Working with the engineers from Schlaich Bergermann and Partners (SBP), Gmp Architekten’s roof covering will feature a cover sheet of approximately 12,000 sqm installed on a single side sliding of a fabric material. With the help of the innovative design developed, all the connection equipment and the electric cables that enable the roof to open and close can be hide into special consoles.
This important work, which dates back to 30 AD, is still being used for music concerts, performance shows and events. Thanks to the details developed within the scope of the project, a solution in harmony with the structure could be achieved without injuriously effect this important work. After the application of the project, the building will also be able to serve in bad weather conditions.
